Description:

For some strange reason, the Samba shares in my machine shows up twice on Nautilus' 'Browse Network'. See screenshot attached.

Additional info:
samba 4.0.5-1
nautilus 3.8.1-1
avahi 0.6.31-6

Steps to reproduce:
- configure a Samba share in your workgroup, like the [tmp] example, and start it.
- open 'Browse Network' in Nautilus, making sure avahi is running.

Note - this happened in the GNOME 3.6 -> 3.8 upgrade, after the Samba 3.x -> 4.x, so I think this is a nautilus problem.
This task depends upon

More information: I run a DNS server on one machine for resolving names in both my LAN and the internet. When I click on one of the duplicate samba shares, the title window is 'Windows shares on <machine name>' and when I click on the other the title window is 'Windows shares on <machine ip address>'.

please report it upstream
Comment by Luis Henrique Mello (lmello) - Friday, 26 April 2013, 21:01 GMT
Did it - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=698891

This must be because of the new sharing settings thingy the added in gnome 3.8 and which I don't know how to operate yet...

It's been 6 months since I've reported this bug, but no response yet... did I file it in the appropriate section? Is it a nautilus, gvfs, avahi or gnome-user-share bug?

This does not happen in Fedora 20 (see screenshot attached), so there must be something wrong in the Arch build of either avahi or gvfs:

In Arch Linux:

$ gvfs-ls -a "standard::*" network:///
dnssd-domain-MAXWELL._smb._tcp 0 (shortcut) standard::is-virtual=TRUE
standard::display-name=MAXWELL (File Sharing)
standard::icon=GThemedIcon:0x7f0a5c009a10
standard::target-uri=smb://maxwell.local:445/
standard::symbolic-icon=GThemedIcon:0x7f0a5c007320
dnssd-domain-maxwell._sftp-ssh._tcp 0 (shortcut)
standard::is-virtual=TRUE standard::display-name=maxwell
standard::icon=GThemedIcon:0x7f0a5c005ad0
standard::target-uri=sftp://maxwell.local:22/
standard::symbolic-icon=GThemedIcon:0x7f0a5c005d50
smb-root 0 (shortcut) standard::is-virtual=TRUE
standard::display-name=Windows Network
standard::icon=GThemedIcon:0x7f0a5c0048c0 standard::target-uri=smb:///

standard::icon=GThemedIcon:0x7f0a5c00e990 standard::target-uri=smb://MAXWELL/
standard::symbolic-icon=GThemedIcon:0x7f0a5c00d700

In Fedora:

The upstream bug report - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=700794 - was closed because on Fedora everything is OK. There must be something wrong with the Arch package...

A patch that fixes the problem was proposed upstream https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=700794 - I've tested it myself and it did solve the problem but the developers must approve it.

Status? Still an issue?

Well, yes. The upstream patch *still* didn't get any reviews what-so-ever :/
