Well… why should I? The big part of LXDE is still written in GTK2 and honestly I don't see any pros of switch other than active development of GTK3.

Yesterday I check buildability of all core LXDE. All components build with GTK+3 and GTK 3 is under active development - you mentioned this pro.
Contra is memory consumption of GTK 3 - + 4.5 MB according to XFCE mailing list. But anyway, switching to GTK 3 will perform, sooner or later. What are the reason to drag out this?
