kdevelop doesn't come with GDB and you can't debug the application. You have to do
# pacman -S gdb
in order to be able to debug.

I guess if you install kdevelop you are likely to do some debugging and i guess kdevelop should come with a debugger.

perhaps a install meassage is enough, since it doesn't link against gdb it is not a real depend.

So the question is; does pacman get the required packages enough to *run* the application or does it get the required packages enough to *use* the application?

If the latter, gdb should be there, if not, i guess you are right.
