After applyng the patch(http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2013-January/035086.html), problem is gone. Can you apply the patch to current xorg-server package? X-fails-to-start-with-headles...
Basically I couldn't switch VTYs at all using the nouveau driver within xorg (the server crashed). This issue has been around for a few months, not sure why it wasn't included in stable.
