after upgrading xf86-input-synaptics (1.6.3-2 -> 1.7.0-1) i can't launch syaptics settings from the systemtray anymore, and trying to start it from KDE systemsettings, those segfault (didn't copy the error, but can re-create it if that would be helpful).

i'm running KDE 4.10.2 from [testing], btw.

downgrading xf86-input-synaptics to the previous version solves the problem.

Unfortunately synaptiks is dead upstream, so I don't have much hope that this will be fixed

While not very active, the upstream project is not quite dead yet. This bug, in particular, has been fixed in the projects git repository: https://github.com/lunaryorn/synaptiks/commit/e24d2f86cc52f5441ad1d630fbf8d0ab0483b018

Gentoo carries this patch in its ebuild (as synaptiks-0.8.1-removedfeatures.patch)
