Please create a multilingual desktop file and submit it to the upstream project. It should not be up to individual distributions to come up with a desktop file of their own.

Currently there isn't a .desktop file for thunderbird (or any mozilla package!) upstream. There's an 8 year old bug on the issue (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296568) but nothing has come of it.
I was going to try to adapt the Ubuntu for Fedora .desktop files to add more translations to ours, but of course they use different names and comments.

I think this issue should be closed though. It's not really a bug, just a request for a translation to be added.
