Detailssmbclient-4.0.4-1 from [testing] introduces a hard dependency on dnsutils, which we agreed to deprecate; see https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-dev-public/2013-March/024588.html and https://www.archlinux.org/todo/dnsutils-to-ldns-migration/ .
Looking at the smbclient-4.0.4-1 package, I cannot determine why it requires dnsutils. Even though, I strongly suspect that the dynamic libraries smbclient provides do not rely on it, which is what most package that depend on smbclient use; therefore dnsutils should at the very most be an optional dependency. Looking at the samba-4.0.4 source, the dig and host tools (which dnsutils provides) seem to only be required by a couple of Perl and Python scripts which do not end up in our smbclient package anyhow. So as far as I can see it is an entirely unneeded dependency. |
