the /mnt/dvd line should probably point to /dev/dvd instead of /dev/cdrom for cleanliness

also, we should consider mounting /tmp noexec by default. I've done this on a bunch of my systems by hand and haven't ran into anything that it breaks (other than malicious scripts).

Some programs extract to /tmp and run their installer from there, so noexec doesn't look good for these. nosuid is a good thing to do however (in fact, I would only allow suid files on the partitions where I install programs on)

Do you have an example of one of these programs? I know this happens on windows, but I don't think I've seen it on Linux yet.

AFAIK the setup of OpenOffice 1.x did in the past, don't know for sure since I install OpenOffice from package nowadays :P

Actually, /tmp isn't its own filesystem anymore. tmpfs on /tmp was more trouble than it was worth. Many programs default to using /tmp for temporary storage (as they should) but some of them need more than the ~(total_mem / 2) MB of storage (k3b, for example) that tmpfs would provide.

I've changed the /mnt/dvd device from /dev/cdrom to /dev/dvd for the next filesystem build.
