The Package Search on the home page has a couple of bugs in the typeahead suggestion.

Firstly, the drop-down list doesn't respond to mouse clicks (i.e. the text box isn't populated with the appropriate text).

Secondly, the keyboard navigation in the drop-down menu skips every other item.

This means that (depending on how many items are in the list) there are some items that are permanently inaccessible.

NB: I've only tried this with Firefox.

And thirdly, the Go button doesn't work (i.e. it doesn't navigate to the packages page).

I'm using firefox and the drop-down list does respond to mouse clicks (i.e. the text box is populated with the appropriate text).

I am however experiencing the second and third issue.

I also can't reproduce the first bug. The second bug is an upstream bug which I "fixed" temporarily by switching to the typeahead version used in archweb locally (which is better for consistency and bandwidth reasons anyway). The "Go" button belongs to the language selection box and not to the package search.

Ha! That "Go" button really had me fooled - especially since the packages page has a "Go" button to execute the search. I would have thought a language change button would be called "Change", and a search button would be called "Search" (as with the equivalent button on the official packages page).

As for the first bug: I've tried every way I can think of to click the items, but nothing works. The links are highlighted on mouseover, and the menu closes on click, but the text box stubbornly refuses to populate. I assume it must have something to do with the menu being implemented as a list of links, rather than just a normal drop-down menu.

I tested on a webkit-based browser, and the second problem does not occur. The first problem still does for me, though.

Does it still occur now? The typeahead suggestions used on the AUR and on the main Arch Linux page should now behave exactly the same.

On the AUR, the second problem is fixed for me with both Firefox and webkit-based browsers. But the first problem still occurs with both.

On the Archlinux home page, typeahead suggestions do not work at all for me with Firefox - I just get a standard drop-down history of previous entries. However, with webkit-based browsers, everything works as expected (except for the first problem).

The skipping of menu items issue was a known upstream bug [1].

Not exactly the same bug, but seems related: I find myself needing to press the "enter" key three times to reach the packages page ever since the name completion got introduced. The first time doesn't seem to do anything, the second time closes the completion, and the third time actually goes to the packages page.

I just want to type in the damn search query, not use the arrow keys or click in the suggestions (which doesn't work for me - first bug of this ticket).

Firefox 23.0, but happened in 22 too.
