Details

notification-daemon is one implementation of the Desktop Notifications Specification[1]. GNOME, KDE and Cinnamon users not even need to install any additional package, as the desktop shell provides a notification server itself. Xfce and other DE users can choose between various implementations, e.g. notify-osd, xfce4-notifyd and so on[2]. Therefore, I don't think that notification-daemon should be added as a hard dependency for any packages.

Please move notification-daemon from depends to optdepends in the following packages:
- ibamtray
- pidgin-libnotify
- turpial
- wammu
