trying to view properties of a video crashes nautilus.

You have a nautilus plugin installed that links to GStreamer 0.10. This causes GStreamer symbol mixing, resulting in crashes or other weird behaviour. Remove your custom nautilus plugin that loads GStreamer 0.10 and you should be fine.
