Currently KDE team considers kio-mtp as stable (from kde 4.10 announcement - Transferring files to and from a phone or other mobile device has become easier with support for MTP devices, which show up in the Places panel).

I know there is a package on AUR, but users may want to have mtp support out of the box when installing KDE (at least after the 4.10 release).

If this issue/request makes no sense, please ignore/close it. :)

I don't see the reason for this. Not everyone needs it, and I guess you know there are many kio plugins out there.

Android devices (> 4.0) relies only in MTP protocol to exchange data with the computer over USB. So, IMHO, it's kind of needed.

KDE team announced this new KIO as a feature and would be great if users could have access to all features provided.

Having this kio package available in the Arch repositories is just one more step to make KDE works with everything out of the box (and have precompiled binaries is much better than compiling from source/aur).

But as I said, it's just a suggestion.

kio-mtp package moved to [community].

But I will NOT add it as depends in kdebase-workspace.
