DetailsIt appears that as of the following commit, the nginx package has added geoip (and subsequently geoip-database) as a dependency:
https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/community.git/commit/trunk?h=packages/nginx&id=369699e84c4a954e53f1ca995a67eccd5c1fad98 While I have no doubt that some people find the geoip module very useful, it seems that adding the geoip dependency for all users of the package goes against the Arch philosophy; if a user wants geoip support in Nginx, they're certainly able to add it to their installation, but I'm not sure it should be the default. IMO, this should be either switched to an optional dependency or removed. - Les |
