Details
Netbeans 7.x drops (or, at least, gives an uncertain future
to) Python features, either as builtin or officially
supported plugin. Maybe we should get in touch with the devs
and, if it is the case, remove "IDE for Python" from the
description of the package.

While this isn't an authorative source, all indications points to the removal of Python support from Netbeans.
I'll update the package.
"Support for python in NetBeans 7 is left to community - which currently means it's almost zero."
The wiki is still a community resource, but at least clearly states that NB devs dropped Python.
Furthermore, Python plugin is not even in NB default plugin repos. So I would say I totally agree with your deduction.
