The latest version of eclipse (3.1.1-2) fails at startup; the older version (3.1-1) works. Relevant section of workspace/.metadata/.log is attached. This looks to be gtk2 related; I have gtk2 2.8.6-1 installed.

Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  Might be worth my writing an eclipse FAQ in the Wiki at some point. There are enough quirks with it that can cause problems.

I'm running eclipse 3.1.1-2 with gtk2 2.8.6-1 on several machines, which indicates this isn't going to be an easy one!

Have you tried creating a new workbench? Just want to be sure it isn't something in the workbench.

Have you done any updates using the Eclipse update site to update the core eclipse classes while running 3.1? This might be the kind of thing that could cause a problem like this.

I'll continue to look at this in more detail, but these are some initial thoughts for you.

You were exactly right in asking about updates - I had installed the Borland TogetherSoft plugin for eclipse & then forgotten about it. I'm sure that explains the problem. I'm new to Eclipse - is it generally the case that plugins need to be removed & re-installed when the base eclipse is upgraded?

And thanks for your speedy & helpful reply!
