The config file for synaptics was renamed from 10-synaptics.conf to 50-synaptics.conf. Did you make any customizations to 10-synaptics.conf that weren't carried over?

Additionally, the only change to the package was the following:

https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/commit/trunk/PKGBUILD?h=packages/xf86-input-synaptics&id=580edb2ee7

Does removal of the MatchDevicePath directive have any effect?

My mistake. It turns out that I had added 'Option "VertEdgeScroll" "on" ' in my old conf file. I added the line back in the new 50-synaptics.conf.
