A .desktop file got added upstream a couple of months ago (https://github.com/l3ib/nitrogen/issues/28). Looks like new package releases don't happen often though so I don't know how long it'll be before it's updated.

Nitrogen added the nitrogen.desktop in a year ago. Please, close a bug.

OK,I confirm:
latest tarball doesn't contain the wanted .desktop BUT git has it (https://github.com/l3ib/nitrogen/issues/28)

IMHO the easiest solution is to add it in our package
