Works fine here. Do you have some or all of the following installed?

gst-plugins-base
gst-plugins-good
gst-plugins-bad
gst-plugins-ugly

Thanks for reply. I did not have any of gst-* installed. Tried installing them, got only one video thumbnail for only one file of about 100 files I tried.

I have following packages installed as per optional dependencies of tumbler package:

ffmpegthumbnailer 2.0.8-1
gstreamer 1.0.4-1

I also have:
gstreamer0.10 0.10.36-1
gstreamer0.10-bad 0.10.23-3
gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins 0.10.23-3
gstreamer0.10-base 0.10.36-1
gstreamer0.10-base-plugins 0.10.36-1
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.13-1
gstreamer0.10-good 0.10.31-1
gstreamer0.10-good-plugins 0.10.31-1
gstreamer0.10-python 0.10.22-1
gstreamer0.10-ugly 0.10.19-3
gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins 0.10.19-3

I did some local testing and having either ffmpegthumbnailer or gst-libav installed should allow tumbler to generate thumbnails for most video files.

Make sure to stop any running instances of the tumbler daemon using 'killall tumblerd' before trying it on video files.

Tried installing gst-libav. Already had ffmpegthumbnailer. Still no joy.
Also noticed that tumbler 0.1.25-1 had optional gstreamer0.10 while tumbler 0.1.26-1 has optional gstreamer.

Attached are dbus monitor logs:
dbus-monitor --session --monitor interface=org.freedesktop.thumbnails.Thumbnailer1

for both tumbler versions. Hope it helps in analyzing what is wrong with my setup. Thank you.

Did you manage to solve your issue?

Reopened, because I was finally able to reproduce the issue in a VM.

I will try to troubleshoot it further.

The only explanation I can find is that you had removed the gst-plugins-{base,good,bad,ugly} packages before trying gst-libav.

Anyway, this doesn't matter anymore; the tumbler 0.1.27-2 package only supports ffmpegthumbnailer and that should be working fine for you.
