Description:

Hi there, I have noted that in the Google Web Font repository, David Crossland has made a better hinted version of inconsolata, and Kirill Tkachev has also made a Bold version of the font.

Especially for hinting, which inconsolata tends to have problems with, would you consider using these newer sources of the font?

Thanks,
Matt Iversen

Any reason that Raph Levien (original author) didn't merge these? Is this supported by the original author? I don't feel really comfortable switching to a fork (?) with the same name as the original without answers to these questions.

We always ship vanilla packages. Please contact with the original author (Raph Levien) if you want to see these improvement.

The author hasn't maintained Inconsolata since 2009. I recommend shipping the .otf fonts (not .ttf) from the above Mercurial repo. In addition to that, also include the further improved (and renamed) versions from the TeX archive, see http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/inconsolata/ .

The lack of a Bold version causes issues in Konsole. Details are described here: https://becomingaglider.wordpress.com/2010/08/20/inconsolata-the-programmers-friend/

+1 for switching to the Google Fonts version, which includes Bold. I think it can be considered the current officially maintained source for Inconsolata.

I'm not going to switch at this point. There is a discussion going on to get to a unified upstream. I'll wait for a few more months to see if that is going somewhere before I make a decission about which of the multiple forks to use.

From upstream's homepage:

Update 2015-12-04: The official release of Inconsolata is at Google Fonts, and official upstream is on github. These versions have better Windows hinting and some fixes.
