Several packages depend on either openbsd-netcat or gnu-netcat, and it's starting to become problematic when upgrading packages (at least for me), since I have to choose between uninstalling one or the other half of the applications I have installed that uses netcat, because of the conflict.

Since gnu-netcat is the most used package according to pkgstats, and since it is in [extra], would it be possible to rename /usr/bin/nc to /usr/bin/nc-openbsd and not conflict?

I believe that would solve more problems than it would create.

Thanks

Reason for closing:  Won't fix
Additional comments about closing:  it will be fixed in packages that requires gnu-netcat directly.

This used to be like that until today which was changed trying to solve issues with virt-manager and libvirt.
Maybe instead dependency of said packages should point to netcat and not any specific implementation.

See  FS#32767 . Also I added todo list. May be maintainers can change gnu-netcat dep to virtual netcat dep.
