Detailsgdm-2.8.0.4-3 is an incomplete package. When I did the upgrade to gnome-2.12.0, gdm was upgraded from gdm-2.6.0.9-2 to gdm-2.8.0.4-3. Following a successful upgrade - I rebooted. X would not start - and no gdm.
I manually issed the 'gdm' command and got the following error message: bash: gdm: command not found. A search of /opt/gnome/bin for gdm* revealed that 4 files were missing - including the gdm-binary and gdm itself! I then downgraded gdm to gdm-2.6.0.9-2 and rebooted. Gdm ran fine - X and gnome started normally. SO - gdm-2.8.0.4-3 is an incomplete package and breaks the X startup in the new gnome upgrade. |

Try using /etc/rc.d/gdm start or having /etc/profile.d/gnome.sh export /opt/gnome/sbin to $PATH.
