See bug 323768. That bug is due to systemd not providing filename glob expansion. In response to a request to re-open that bug I recieved the response:

S#32368 - [hddtemp] not returning HDD temps for multiple drives as a systemd service

Reason for denial:
This is why we don't support EnvironmentFiles

I can't find this documented anywhere, and it seems to be news to the maintainers of theis package too since the EnvironmentFiles statement is used in the provided service file.

If we closed this bug once, we can close it twice...

But you have a fair point that we shouldn't be using EnvironmentFile; that was a mistake and I just fixed it (replaced by sane options) in SVN.
