See bug 323768. That bug is due to systemd not providing
filename glob expansion. In response to a request to re-open
that bug I recieved the response:

But you have a fair point that we shouldn't be using EnvironmentFile; that was a mistake and I just fixed it (replaced by sane options) in SVN.
