hi,
I have problems running Anki:

$ sudo locale-gen
Generating locales...
cs_CZ.UTF-8... done
cs_CZ.ISO-8859-2... done
en_US.UTF-8... done
en_US.ISO-8859-1... done
Generation complete.
[marek@beruska ~]$ anki
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/anki", line 14, in <module>
import anki, aqt
File "/usr/share/anki/libanki/anki/__init__.py", line 12, in <module>
raise Exception("Anki requires a UTF-8 locale.")
Exception: Anki requires a UTF-8 locale.
[marek@beruska ~]$ yaourt -Qs anki
community/anki 2.0.3-1
Helps you remember facts (like words/phrases in a foreign language) efficiently

The only catch _might_ be that I have some stacks for learning Chinese installed, but that definitely should not crash anki at startup.

Thanks, mark

PS: also happens with empty ~/.anki/ folder.

Generating a locale doesn't mean it's immediately in use. What is the output of 'locale'?
Comment by Sergej Pupykin (sergej) - Monday, 05 November 2012, 09:03 GMT
"locale" command output should be like this:

LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=ru_RU.UTF-8
LC_TIME=ru_RU.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=ru_RU.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=ru_RU.UTF-8
LC_NAME=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=en_US.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=ru_RU.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ALL=
