sounds like you don't have a compatible gtk3 theme installed. try to use adwaita and let me know if is working.

I have the same problem but with another applications, such bash when I press "ctrl+shift+tab" (it open another tab). A few days ago I had that problem, with nautilus. I changed my gtk3 theme but I still have that issue with ram & swap. In my case it freezes everything temporaly and then it close all my windows (all of them) and the ram goes down, so do the swap (except for a few megabytes).
Excuse my english...regards! :)

Indeed Ionut, the problem in my case was caused by gtk themes in Gnome 3.6.1 having style transitions. This was discovered in the following thread and a bug report has been filed upstream.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1188430
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687467

This bug can be closed now.

In your case Juan Donadio, you seem to be having a different issue.

Trusktr I set the Adwaita theme without animations and no more problems! (at the moment) :)
