Dear Arch developers,
with great sadness I see this project slipping away into obscurity. Most volunteer packagers and developers of Arch are not as active as they used to be at the beginning of this year, when Arch was on its all-time-best.

As an Arch-only Linux user, I would like to see more activity and more openess regarding the future of this project. For example, porting of services, Beagle stuff, network location support (e.g. easily modifiable different settings for work and home), NetworkManager support, Gnome Tools support, acpi that works (e.g. laptop sleep), automatic alsa dmix support when needed etc etc etc. In other words, I would like to see some ENGINEERING going on! Meanwhile, basic needs like package updating does not happen often anymore. There are many packages that have not been updated at all in the past few months (and are not in Testing either). And while Thunderbird and Firefox latest versions are in Testing, why are they taking so long to get them on -Current? We, who would like a stable desktop (so we don't run -Testing), also like a secure desktop!

I understand that this is voluntary project, however, it would be fair for the project leader to make an announcement about the true status of the project so at least people who run Arch for work or they want an always updated/modern desktop, to learn the truth and decide for their future instead of leaving us in a lingering position checking the package list many times a day, only to get dissapointed from its lack of updates... Even a "I don't have much time these days to do Arch stuff" would be sufficient for us to decide on what to do with our computers to get the support we need from the operating system of our choice.

kind regards,
Eugenia

Hi Eugenia,

Please see the recent ML post here for a general update, and some proposed solutions for increased visibility w.r.t. Arch development.
