Description:

Since last few days (last "fast" restart was on 28'th October on that machine) one of my machines seemed to stop working. At first it seemed that /usr or /var on separate partiotion were at fault, but then noticed that it is LVM that holds/keeps the reboot process.

( lvm [pid]: There are still devices being monitored // lvm [pid]: Refusing to exit )

This machine is built on raid (mirroring). In there, sits lvm (including root partition of lvm). lvm and shutdown hooks are in place. Everything worked few days ago. Disabling monitoring in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf made the machine reboot like it was before. Disabling monitoring during normal system operation with

vgchange --monitor n

works in instant. This behaviour looks similar to https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/30271/ and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=681582

Please install device-mapper and lvm2 from testing and then run 'systemctl enable lvm-monitoring.service'. After the next reboot, this should be solved.

LVM setup has been changed completely in this version, please read https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-general/2012-October/031906.html for details.

Version from testing works - and machine restart time shortened by more than 10 seconds.

Great news - I do not get much feedback on LVM, and the changes to the setup are rather big.

For reference, this is what caused your original problem: https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/commit/?h=packages/lvm2&id=87c2989c0b9b95eabea0abdf05fda5b1be0db8c8
