I know about at least one AUR package that depends on Java
Web Start (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18565
) - even that this app is installed, it refuses to work
without javaws available - I'm not sure what it is used for
and had no time to look for it, but I checked that it's
indeed needed, maybe to check for updates or something like
this.
Currently there is no way to add java webstart to dependencies and at the same time support different versions of java. It made maintainer of mentioned package to check for java webstart at runtime and just exit with message "install ..." where ... is replaced with correct webstart implementation. If following how we provide java-runtime and java-environment we added java-web-start=6 to icedtea-web and java-web-start=7 to icedtea-web-java7, this problem would be possible to solve during installation stage. |
