Additional comments about closing: poppler 0.5.3-2, which is in testing at this moment, fixes this bug.

Go here: http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadDetailAct&fcategoryid=322&modelid=10149
and then click on the "Product / Software Manuals" link. A new window will popup and from there download the "PowerShot S60 Camera User Guide (PDF, 3.45 MB)" and open it with Evince (move down a few pages to see that a huge watermark renders on top of the text making it unreadable) and then with XPDF to see the difference in rendering.
