Description:

Kernel 3.5.3-1 makes 8139cp useless

Hello there. Since the latest kernel upgrade my arch box with three identical realtek 8139 NICs is useless.
Driver in use is 8139cp.
No TCP, UDP, ICMP traffic works on any of the interfaces to any hosts other than the box itself.
There are no errors in the logs.

The kernel in question is from the linux-3.5.3-1 package.
Manually downgrading to the previous (linux-3.4.8-1) package solves the problem.

Steps to reproduce:

Installing the package linux-3.5.3-1
Generating any type of traffic on the realtek 8139 card.

I know, this should be maybe upstream, but the bugzilla at kernel.org is officially supported only for kernel 2.6...
This task depends upon

This is simply not true, and whatever doc you were reading is out of date. For all intents and purposes, 3.x is very much a continuation of the 2.6 branch. The differentiation is there to point out that the 2.4 series is not supported.

Thank you. But I still don't know, if this is upstream or not. But I will file it on the kernel bugzilla too.

On kernel.org there is this text:
"There is now a bugzilla setup at bugzilla.kernel.org. Currently this is for reporting kernel version 2.6 bugs only."
(But I see, there are 3.x kernel bugs filed too)

I will appreciate any comments related to the bug itself.
Thank you everyone

Did you report to the kernel devs? Please post the link here.

I have the same issue, and the issue persists with latest kernel 3.6.5.
