I have found this patch, which works for me:

Has this patch been accepted in upstream Geeqie?
It sounds like a window manager problem to me...

This patch was used in both Ubuntu and Debian.
The bug is assigned in upstream development but open since 2010-01-02!

I can't reproduce it here on fvwm so probably a WM issue as Gaetan said.
