KDE hungs after recent upgrades. Last successfull upgrade was about few days ago, yesterday I already noticed some bugs, KDE's klipper didn't worked, tray icons theme has not been applied, some keyboard shortcuts (for apps launch) didn't worked, but such shortcuts like Alt+F4 worked fine.

Today I started KDE and tried to run amarok, it failed to start without any error, simply hung. Then I tried to run Dolphin, but it take few minutes to start.

See this bug also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=305188

I have "export QT_NO_GLIB=1" in my /etc/profile, when I tried to comment out this line KDE hang on any my action so I can't even open KDE's start menu.

Then I tried to downgrade the glibc to 2.16.0-2 but it didn't helped.
Severity is set as high because this issue doesn't allow me to use my PC, please change if incorrect.

Please try wiping /var/tmp/kde* and to use a new user.
Also, please attach ~/.xsession-errors.
You can get more debug infos if you enable everything in `kdebugdialog`

Hi, already tried to rename ~/.kde4 to ~/.kde4_ and it did not helped. Wiping /var/tmp/kde* did not helped also.

Xsession errors log attached, things become weird on line 6067 when I launched amarok. I waited about 3-4 minutes but it did not started so I used killall -9 kded4, what returned all things to life.

It's possible to restart the kded4 process after launching all required apps, but it could hang again lather. For example it happens sometime when I click on a link in kmail email browser.

Looks like kded has some troubles with phonon, systemsettings hangs when I trying to open "Multimedia → Phonon". After killing kded system settings comes back to life but show only "Default" audio device.

This is kded console output, it always show it before hung:
{code}
kded(10434)/phonon (kded module) PhononServer::findDevices: Solid offers 8 audio devices
kded(10434)/phonon (kded module) PhononServer::findDevices: Solid offers 0 video devices

{code}

kdialog also hangs when I hovering/selecting multimedia files (assuming it tries to load same sound modules as system settings wondow does).

I will try to build phonon/phonon-vlc from git.

No luck, it still hangs with git versions of phonon and vlc backend.
And system settings windows also show all devices when kded is killed, I simply forgot to set the "Show additional devices" check box.

knotify(6438)/phonon (KDE plugin): QDBusError("org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown", "The name org.kde.kded was not provided by any .service files")

I guess your D-Bus installation is broken.
How do you start KDE?
Comment by Alexander (heaven) - Thursday, 16 August 2012, 14:49 GMT
As usually, using KDM in inittab:

Few days ago I had issues with electricity and my PC was crashed few times in a row. Is it possible that some files was lost? I already tried to re-instal dbus packages yesterday. And how can I find those files? pacman -Qk doesn't show any package with missed files.
   inittab (1.1 KiB)

If pacman -Qk doesn't show any package missing then there're none (Though, I don't know if it checks the checksums too).

I figured out that errors like this one appears in console when kded4 is dead, i.e. after I had to kill it.
amarok(2842)/phonon (KDE plugin): QDBusError("org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown", "The name org.kde.kded was not provided by any .service files")

This mean that the problem is somewhere else.

Tried to create new user and logged in to KDE and it worked fine. Started to remove folders from ~ and looks like removing of .thumbnails fixed this issue for me.
