DetailsDescription: When trying to set key bindings in gnome control center I could not see anything to do with workplace switching. This is not missing from debian, ubuntu, or fedora.

In any case, I also made a report on GNOME's bug tracker. Is this an upstream issue?

And manually editing the keys (keybindings for switch-to-workspace-X). This permits the old behaviour of allowing the use of 1-12.
It appears to just be an issue with the GUI.
