i do know about the "don't touch a running system" policy, but this is only a suggestion.

The style archlinux uses is very nice, especially when you first boot the system. But i always found that the default bash prompt is a downer (compared to the nice looking daemon start messages on the boot screen).

There might be some reasons, why the default prompt does not use colors, but anyway here is my suggestion for the new default bash prompt.

if [ $EUID -eq 0 ]; then
PS1="\e[1;37m[\e[1;36m\h\e[1;37m \W]\e[1;31m # \e[0m"
else
PS1="\e[1;37m[\e[1;34m\u\e[1;36m@\h\e[1;37m \W]\e[0m $ "
fi

i attached an example which shows you the colors in action.

Why not leave it up to the user? Different people will want different color schemes or no colors at all.
There already is https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Color_Bash_Prompt

i know about that, the suggestion concerns the first impression, nothing else. A user already familiar with arch will most likely have his own bashrc anyway.
