DetailsDescription:
I have a RAID1 array on an Intel ICH chipset (fakeraid) and I'm trying to switch from grub-legacy to grub2 but grub-install cannot write to the MBR of the array. The command fails with the error: Path `/boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is impossible. Aborting. A google search for the problem shows many people with issues with grub2 and fakeraid, but at least on Ubuntu people were able to get it to install properly with the latest versions. Maybe (I'm blindly guessing here) there are some specific patches other distributions use to make it work. The array is working perfectly with grub-legacy (although I had to follow the instructions on the wiki to install it since it wasn't auto-detecting it). Additional info: * package version(s): grub 2.00-1 |

This is apparently a regression. I was able to downgrade to grub2-bios 2.00beta4-1 and it works. Also the problem seems to be related to grub-probe not being able to identify the filesystem on a dmraid partition.

I have to add that if mdadm is used to assemble the device (instead of dmraid) the installation works. Since dmraid is being abandoned (both upstream and by Arch, see also https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/31236) maybe this problem will not be relevant soon.
