Description:
When booting with the new kernel 3.5 from testing all is running well until it comes to the kde login screen (KDM). I type in my name and password hit ok and then - nothing happens. The greeter has gone away leaving a black background. It takes almost a minute until kde starts at least. Logout and Login to another user account happen almost instantaneously. But rebooting and login to the other user account last for a long time to. Booting with kernel 3.4.6 on the same machine logs me in instantly.

I can't reproduce this using KDE 4.9 and I can't test 4.8.4.

Do you've a NVIDIA video card?

I also experience delays on boot and login with Gnome since Linux 3.5. I found out that this comes from PulseAudio but I don't see any hints what's going wrong.

I can confirm that this is pulseaudio related. I did remove

[2012-07-28 11:06] Running 'pacman -Rsc pulseaudio'
[2012-07-28 11:06] removed pulseaudio-alsa (2-1)
[2012-07-28 11:06] removed pulseaudio (2.1-1)
[2012-07-28 11:06] removed rtkit (0.10-4)
[2012-07-28 11:06] removed webrtc-audio-processing (0.1-1)

and all is well again. But I need pulseaudio for my Bluetooth headphone...

IF it's a Pulseaudio + linux 3.5, try to contact the pulseaudio devs upstream
Comment by Heinrich Siebmanns (Harvey) - Tuesday, 31 July 2012, 08:27 GMT
Well after some research I am not sure if this is pulseaudio related. Maybe it is a side effect of this one: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/30926
I looks like pulseaudio tries to start several times. I'm not sure why or even if this affects the 3.5 kernel more that 3.4.x. More research has to be done...

I still cannot reproduce this, using 3.5 and pulseaudio on KDE 4.9
Comment by Heinrich Siebmanns (Harvey) - Tuesday, 31 July 2012, 10:17 GMT
Well, I can't either now ;) Seems to be gone with linux 3.5-2. Sorry for the noise. Welll, at least I found this KDE thingie...
