i tried to build using makepkg but then do not pack it in package but install manually the files from src/scim-?.?.?/ and it does fail to run x11 frontend too.

=> it is not the packaging that is the problem

the problem is the building using makepkg ... maybe CFLAG's or other optimisaiton problmes

as i knwo from some reports, the package works for some people with x11 frontend. the problem must be in the other packages on the problematic system. what may cause it not to work?

SCIM in testing repo work well, maybe this bug cause by pacman ?
Also maybe is glibc's problem. There were ever some similar bug whit SCIM 1.4.X in MDV,but resolved by updated glibc.

the scim 1.4.2 in [testing] should work with x11 for me now.

can anybody else who had problems with older scim in archlinux and x11 frontend module confirm that 1.4.2 works fine, now?

For me the scim 1.4.2 that packaged by pacman and glibc which in current
repo still can't work, but the one in testing repo works fine.

good to hear.

scim in testing is compiled against pkgs in testing.. that's why it probably does not work with glibc in current

Just one suggestion , add a configuration tip message to the scim package,
some like :

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
To use SCIM ,add this to .xinitrc

export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
export QT_IM_MODULE=scim
scim -d
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

when people installed SCIM ,they can see the tips then use SCIM more easily .
