Is your card detected?
dmesg | grep e1001
Do you have it disabled in bios or by hardware switch?

The card is detected but just doesn't work. I know it works because I've rebooted into a rescue LiveCD and I'm using it now.

A recent upgrade I think is the cause, but I don't which package is causing the problem.

If you have any hints to force my e1000e device up as eth0 I would be grateful.
