Description:
With KDE 4.8.x installed and used with workspace "netbook" the system will hang with 100% cpu usage when switching pages on the netbook desktop (eg switching from 'Search and Launch' to 'Page one' by clicking on 'Page one' tab with the left mouse button). This does not occur in other linux distributions. The executable 'plasma-netbook' from the package 'kdebase-workspace' is the guilty culprit, using 100% cpu and effectively hanging the desktop environment.

Additional info:
* package version(s) KDE 4.8.x package kdebase-workspace, program plasma-netbook
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
Set desktop workspace to 'netbook'. Swith between 'Search and Launch' page to 'Page one' by clicking on 'Page one' tab

Hi again, it happened in Arch with KDE 4.8.2 also, but not in Kubuntu with 4.8.2. When I reinstalled Arch with KDE 4.8.3 and then KDE 4.8.4 I had the same problem. I'll bet you a nice pint of beer that something is wrong with the Arch packages!

Could you try with 4.9? You only need to enable both [testing] and [kde-unstable] and run pacman -Syu.
Just to do another try.

Yes, I will try 4.9

I tried upgrading to 4.9 from kde unstable, but the same problem occurs. I removed my entire .kde4 directory in my home folder and still same problem

OK, I sort of fixed this myself. I went into the config file ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-netbook-appletsrc and in the containment for 'Page one' I removed the plugin that was named there: 'newspaper'. Must be an issue with that plugin. Thanks everyone for your help. I'll report this to bugs.kde.org
