Summary and Info:
Since not very long, maybe a week or so, I have no sound with certain audio codecs using alsa as the audio outputter.
My backend is pulse and the asound.conf is made to pass alsa calls to pulse but lately it does not work.
It works fine with -ao pulse though.
I only seem to get that issue with DTS and AC3 codecs, no issue with mp3.
No issue with mplayer2 either.

Steps to Reproduce:
use mplayer to play a HD video with the alsa backend on a pulse system.

I just came across this problem too. For me, I get loud clicks and pops instead of the normal audio track, but only with ffmpeg/libavcodec files. I can append "-ac a52" or "-ac faad" to use a different codec and this works. I downgraded to the previous version of mplayer and that works fine, only the latest Arch version (r35014) has problems. I compiled the latest version of mplayer from SVN and that works fine.

It looks like this problem is fixed by mplayer commit r35023 "Initialize a few more AVFrame fields to avoid FFmpeg errors"

Would it be possible to have the Arch mplayer package updated to include this fix?

Still a problem with latest versions?

I just tried and yes, still the same.
No issue with mp3, issue with more advanced codecs (flac is also an issue).
