Did you try to rebuild the kernel with the patch?

I've tried to rebuild kernel with modified patch (Comment #21), which should work for transcend jetflash 8gb.
It works, but as I see the patch is only workaround and problem isn't solved in general.

Driver quirks are a reality. There is no general solution unless you convince hardware manufacturers to stop producing broken hardware.
