With perl 5.16, automake complains on invocation:

main::scan_file() called too early to check prototype at /usr/bin/aclocal line 642

Upstream has a patch for this tested and committed already for 1.12.1: http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/automake.git/commit/?h=maint&id=6bf58a59a1f3803e57e3f0378aa9344686707b75
