DetailsAfter updating linux this morning
[2012-05-03 09:03] upgraded linux (3.3.3-1 -> 3.3.4-2) I rebooted to find my r8168-driven eth0 was unavailable. From kernel log: May 3 17:10:40 localhost kernel: [ 2.645220] r8168: disagrees about version of symbol alloc_etherdev_mqs May 3 17:10:40 localhost kernel: [ 2.645222] r8168: Unknown symbol alloc_etherdev_mqs (err -22) May 3 17:10:40 localhost kernel: [ 2.645234] r8168: disagrees about version of symbol skb_put May 3 17:10:40 localhost kernel: [ 2.645236] r8168: Unknown symbol skb_put (err -22) May 3 17:10:40 localhost kernel: [ 2.645239] r8168: disagrees about version of symbol consume_skb May 3 17:10:40 localhost kernel: [ 2.645240] r8168: Unknown symbol consume_skb (err -22) May 3 17:10:40 localhost kernel: [ 2.645242] r8168: disagrees about version of symbol __netif_schedule May 3 17:10:40 localhost kernel: [ 2.645243] r8168: Unknown symbol __netif_schedule (err -22) (and so on, I attached a copy of the full log for light reading) Rebuilding the driver from abs fixed the issue. (Forgive me if the severity is incorrect, not having my ethernet driver killed my network connectivity until I got a copy of the r8168 sources downloaded with another OS, copied over to this box and built so 'high' seemed to fit as per the wiki.) |

Aaaand I screwed up. This is r8168 8.028.00-4 (current version in [community]), and sorry about missing the square brackets around the package name in the title. Exams are screwing with my sleep. :/

Most likely a rebuild against linux 3.3.4 is required.
