Description:
While trying to run: $ nmcli con The effect is: Error: Can't obtain connections: settings service is not running. Which makes impossible to manage connections through command line. Additional info: * package version(s): networkmanager 0.9.4.0-4 dbus 1.4.20-1 * config and/or log files etc. No log files are being created. Steps to reproduce: Run command in terminal $ nmcli con |

It's reported on the Ubuntu launchpad bugtracker [1] that this issue was resolved upstream on 4/5/2012 by this commit [2].

I solved my problem by installing AUR's networkmanager-git. The issue was resolved upstream for sure, since it works properly now.
I'd still like an updated version in the repo instead of keeping on with this git build.
networkmanager 0.9.4.0-6
dbus-core 1.6.0-4
(still have not tried networkmanager-git).
I applied the patch from [1] to this nm package. Nmcli now works as expected.
