Is there any reason why the magic sysrq key is disabled by default in /etc/sysctl.conf?

It's the most useful key ever, it allows me to shut my system down safely if I have a bad crash, or if X locks up hard, I can kill it and recover without a hard power off.

IMHO it's a sane default. It's a hazard to have it enabled on servers/boxes with remote access, as it's possible to use it remotely. If anyone wants to take advantage of it, he'd just hash the line out ;-)

Ah, I didnt realise it was possible to use it remotely.

Still, it's pretty usefull, and a pity that more people dont know about it.

Agreed, it's a real killer when it comes to emergencies ;-)
