There is a very old bug related to this. Look at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 Due to this issue all key binding which used keyboard layout switch is not working. E.g. Keyboard layout switch key binding is Ctrl+Shift All system key binding uses this combination will not working: - Ctrl+Shift+A - Ctrl+Shift+Z - Ctrl+Shift+2 - Ctrl+Shift+Up etc Adopted patch for 1.12.0 from above link attached to defect. New PKGBUILD is attached also. Additional info: Pakages Info: * xorg-server-1.12.0-1 * xorg-server-common-1.12.0-1 Keyboard layout Xorg configuration: * $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/01-keyboard-layout.conf Section "InputClass" Identifier "keyboard-layout" Driver "evdev" MatchIsKeyboard "yes" Option "XkbModel" "acer_laptop" Option "XkbLayout" "us,ru" Option "XkbOptions" "grp:ctrl_shift_toggle,numpad:microsoft,ctrl:nocaps" EndSection Steps to reproduce: 1. Run X with some of keyboard indicator. 2. Press(not release) switcher key binding. (E.g. Ctrl+Shift) 3. Keyboard layout changed. => 4. This patch successfully applied on my arch system and working well.
