Detailswhen updating packages, e.g. with the -Su command, pacman omits the repository names from the packages about to be upgraded. i have added a few additional repositories to pacman.conf, and it turns out to be dangerous to do that, when using pacman -Su on a regular base.
e.g. it offered to upgrade gcc to 4.0, although gcc was in testing. pacman gave no visual feedback about this fact. would i have known it is not in stable, i wouldnt have upgraded. later on i had to revert to gcc 3.4 because nvidia and nforce were unable to compile with a different compiler than the one that was used to build the kernel. |
