A minor system nuissance. A user's .bashrc file isn't run when logging in to the main console. After further investigation, I noticed the root user has a .bash_profile, which sources the .bashrc. Is there a reason why this behaviour isn't included in /etc/profile, so that all users can benefit?

Well, all users do benefit, since /etc/skel/.bash_profile sources the .bashrc.

Do you have a ~/.bash_profile for your user? Does it source ~/.bashrc?

I had to go read what /etc/skel was all about ... so it's the files included by default for new users! I guess I must've just lost my .bash_profile by mistake... perhaps during one of my several bad backups :) No reason to argue whether /etc/skel or /etc/profile.d is a better place to put this. Kindly close the bug.
