Description:

I recently upgraded nvidia from 290 to 295 series.
I found that I cannot switch anymore from my desktop (KDE) to a tty, because the only thing I obtain is a black screen (not even illuminated, just a turned off screen). It's interesting that, if I issue a command in this black screen, I obtain a response: so is only a nvidia graphical issue, not a tty one.
Moreover, when I try to halt the computer, it doesn't completely shut down: it remains stuck at the moment before shutting down, with only the fan and some lights on...

Additional info:

linux 3.2.9-1
nvidia 295.20-3
xorg-server 1.12.0-1

Steps to reproduce:

with an older version xorg-server I could build versions of the driver 290 (nvidia-290.*) , driver 290 is no problem.

I can also confirm that issue with nvidia 295.33, but for i686 only. x86_64 works fine.

Confirm this!
I'm trying to get tty{1,2,3,4,5,6} & monitor goes into standby mode. Ctrl+Alt+F7 returns to X's (kde session, compiz-session, etc)

Linux arch 3.2.13-1-ARCH
nvidia 295.33-1
xorg-server 1.12.0.901-1

ps. /var/log/Xorg.0.log don't have a errors or warnings.

Just to throw my 2¢ in, I also get this behaviour. Unfortunately, upon hibernate, the system does not switch off, although the system writes the image to disk and resumes flawlessly.

Upgrade to extra/nvidia 295.33-2 -> if trying to get tty, monitor goes into standby mode. Behavior like on nvidia 295.33-1.
