"pactree ghostscript | grep freetype" returns a hit on freetype2, so freetype2 is a dependency for ghostscript. As far as I can test ghostscript here, the gs binary works completely fine.

Works fine. Fontconfig is a depedency of ghostscript, where as fontconfig depends on freetype2.
