When trying to log out from gnome immediately after it has started, it takes about 2 minutes before the confirmation dialog shows in the screen. Something must be wrong with this?

I noticed this on a dirty session or some bad applets on your panel. When gnome is started, not every process that is started is ready yet and blocks something in your session. When you hit the logout button, it could take a while before it shows up.

Try making a new user account or delete your gnome session settings.

Thanks. Renaming my ~/.gnome2 folder solved the problem (and didn't even take all my desktop setting). I probably had all kinds of cruft collected there. Well, time for clean start :)
